PosiGlaze Megagrip Channel System

Heavy-Duty Solution for (C5 Occupancy type)

Commercial Glass Balustrade (Base Fix)

Specific Design Only

MegaGrip is a heavy-duty fully adjustable frameless glass balustrade system designed for high person traffic volume locations. This commercial system is perfect for vulnerable public spaces such as; Stadiums, Shopping Centre’s, Public Transportation Zones, Theatres and other high people traffic locations. The MegaGrip system is currently available only for specific design projects and can also be useful for Extra High wind zone areas.

  • Fully Adjustable After Insulation: Megagrip uses a unique, simple adjustment system allowing horizontal alignment of each glass panel.
  • Seamless Aesthetics: Uncomplicated installation / robust system.
  • Engineered: For public safety and to stand resilient within crowded spaces (C5 Occupancy Type) – Promoting Safety through strength of design.

Key Features

  • The MegaGrip can be used base fixed (Top) mounted.
  • MegaGrip’s motive for development was to create a product that primarily focuses on public safety and durability in large commercial constructs.
  • Simple to install align and adjust.
  • MegaGrip works with glass thicknesses from 25 to 33mm simply by changing the internal clamps, thus allowing frameless solutions with various laminated glass types.
  • The patented design uses a 13mm Hex Bolt, making it incredibly easy to adjust and fix the glass with a 1/4inch torque wrench and extension arm. This also means it is possible to install the glass from one side.

Material Finish

  • The sections and covers are fully anodised to 25 microns for durability and come standard in a unique brushed anodised finish which gives a 'Stainless Steel Effect'.
Powdercoated upon request. Note: Powder coating is available in a wide range of colours with commercially available surface integrity warranties from 10 to 30 years.
  • Important instructions - Attachment to structures;
    - An EPDM or similar material spacer must be used to separate all aluminium items from all timber, concrete, and steel structures. Failure to do so can lead to the chemicals in the structure affecting the surface finish on the aluminium.
  • All fixings must be Stainless Steel.

Occupancy Type

  • Suitable for occupancy types  A, B, E, C1/C2, C3, C5, D, F/G (subject to glass & fixing type)
  • Occupancy types as per AS/NZ 1170.1.2002.

Windzone

  • Exceeds the wind loading for all Wind Zones up to and including Extra High Wind Zone.
  • Max design Wind pressure subject to glass type and fixing method.

The system is glazed with Metro Performance Glass, as follows:

  •  Toughened Laminated SGP 25-33mm nominal thickness with rigid interlayer. Stiffener brackets or interlinking rail not required (provided minimum panel length requirements are satisfied).

Interlinking Rail

  • All monolithic toughened frameless glass balustrades must have an Interlinking Rail to conform to NZS 4223.3.2016, including the latest amendment of NZBC B1.

Compliance

  • Complies with AS/NZS 1170:2002, NZS 4223.3.2016,
    NZ Building Code B1, F2, F4 and F9.

Scope of Use

  • MegaGrip is the perfect choice for heavy-duty commercial installations or areas susceptible to overcrowding where a C5 Occupancy Type - frameless glass balustrade is desired.
    • Starting with the slimmest glass; 25mm varying up to 33mm thickness (10+10+10).
  • The high specification glass clamping mechanism locks glass panels into position effortlessly with four immobilising fasteners, per meter of channel. Should the need arise, it remains possible to re-align or even remove individual panels after the initial installation has been completed.
  • With the use of a trapezoidal adjustment mechanism it is possible to horizontally align each individual panel of glass to create an immaculate and seamless finish.
  • Where required, an interlinking top rail finishes off the system, producing a low profile modern look.

Design tables and CAD Drawings for specific substrate fixings for this balustrade system are currently in development, and will be added once complete.
